In brief, buses are the most affordable and the only available public transport service. Several spots across Halkidiki are connected by public (KTEL) buses with Thessaloniki and with each other.
Even though buses reach several spots across Halkidiki, visitors who want to explore the region usually opt for a rental car to avoid restrictions.
Tickets
Note: Prices below are indicative and subject to change at any time.
The fare depends on the length of the route. Below are indicative prices for some of the most popular routes as of 2025:
• Within Halkidiki
The price for routes within Halkidiki is lower, but it all depends on the length of the tour. Also, sometimes using more than one bus is necessary to reach your destination, so purchasing two or more tickets is unavoidable. For example, tickets from Kallithea to nearby areas in Kassandra, including Afitos, Hanioti, and Pefkochori, usually range between 2 and 3 EUR. The village is also connected with Nea Moudania, from where one can take another bus to explore Sithonia and other regions.
Condition
KTEL Halkidikis owns more than 60 buses equipped with basic amenities, like air-conditioning and luggage storage (limited above the seats for items like backpacks and jackets and a more spacious area for bulky luggage on the lower part of the bus).
Frequency
Itineraries increase during the high season in order to accommodate locals, visitors, and people from nearby areas who want to go to the beach. Popular routes may be available more than 10 times a day, while less-popular ones usually remain the same throughout the year.
