General Description

Try out a one-of-a-kind safari adventure and discover the heart of Cretan village life. Gain insight into olive picking, olive oil production, Cretan wine, honey-making, and the traditional distillation of raki and tsikoudia. Try the island’s rich cuisine and learn more about its culture, history, and traditions!

Our first stop takes you to the historic Saint John the Hermit Cave, where the saint lived for three years in the 16th century. From here, we will enjoy excellent views that stretch all the way from the Aegean Sea to the White Mountains. During the Ottoman occupation, this cave also operated as a "secret school," where young boys from nearby villages were taught to read and write in Greek.

As we reach Ano Vouves, we will visit the legendary 3,000–5,000-year-old olive tree, which is still producing olives to this day! We will also explore a traditional stone olive mill and a small Cretan farm, before unwinding with a cup of mountain tea, coffee, or fresh orange juice in the peaceful countryside.

At Anoskeli’s Olive Mill and Winery, expert sommeliers and producers will introduce us to the fine art of wine and olive oil making. We will taste organic, extra virgin olive oil on warm bread, paired with oregano, salt, and lemon juice. Then, we will continue with a wine-tasting experience, sampling five distinct local wines paired with traditional Cretan snacks. Enjoy a relaxed, private time, tasting Cretan delicacies.

Venture off the beaten path, as we drive through the rugged mainland of West Crete, passing charming villages, olive groves, vineyards, and beautiful gorges. Depending on the route we take, you will witness the stunning landscapes of Topolia or Sebronas Gorge. Capture breathtaking photos, observe local mountain goats, and watch vultures soaring from their nests high above!

To ensure a more relaxed dining experience, we carefully select different restaurants based on the season, trying our best to avoid crowded spots whenever possible. We will, then, feast on a delicious, traditional Cretan meal, featuring seasonal salad, wine, beer, and dessert.
