Koufonisia is a set of 2 islands: Ano Koufonisi and Kato Koufonisi.
Ano Koufonisi is the lively one, where hotels, restaurants, bars and sights are located; Kato Koufonisi, on the other hand, is an uninhabited islet that can only be approached by boat from Ano Koufonisi.
Koufonisia lies in the heart of the Aegean Sea, between Naxos and Amorgos. They belong to the famous island group of the Cyclades and, more specifically, to the Small Cyclades group.
These two small islands are so different from one another, but they both offer some of the most spectacular landscapes you will come across in Greece!
In fact, Koufonisia boasts some of the best beaches in the Cyclades! The most popular options are Pori, Finikas, and Fanos in Ano Koufonisi and, Nero, Detis and Pezoulia in Kato Koufonisi.
If you want to explore the pristine coastline, your best bet is to take a water taxi to Kato Koufonisi. Except for discovering sea caves and isolated coves, don’t miss the opportunity to jump from the boat into the turquoise water- it’s a unique experience!
After exploring the islands’ beaches, head to Chora, the capital, which is located in Ano Koufonisi. Chora is not particularly large, but it oozes a unique charm! Stroll around its narrow alleys, marvel at the scenic setting, eat fresh fish at its traditional taverns and immerse yourself in the island way of living!
Ano Koufonisi is a tiny island and transportation is achieved on foot or by bike.
