• How long is the duration of the trip?

The duration of the ferry trip from Athens to Mykonos ranges from a minimum of 2 hours and 30 minutes to a maximum of 5 hours and 30 minutes. The average travel time is 4 hours. That depends on the type of vessel (conventional or high-speed), the port of departure (Piraeus or Rafina), the in-between stops to other islands, and the winds that blow in the Aegean Sea.

• How much do the tickets cost?

Prices depend on the ferry type (conventional or high-speed) and the port of departure (Piraeus or Rafina). Some indicative prices are:

  • €53 for a conventional Blue Star vessel from Piraeus with a trip duration of around 5.5 hours.
  • €87.7 for a high-speed Seajets vessel from Piraeus with a trip duration of 3 hours.
  • €38 for a conventional Fast Ferries vessel from Rafina and a trip duration of 4.5 hours.
  • €68.5 for a high-speed Golden Star vessel from Rafina and a trip duration of 2.5 hours.
  • €76.7 for a high-speed Seajets vessel from Rafina with a trip duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes.

• What types of vessels are operating?

There are two types of vessels operating the route from Athens to Mykonos - conventional ferries and high-speed ferries.
Conventional ferries are run by Blue Star, Golden Star, and Fast Ferries.
High-speed ferries are run by Seajets, Blue Star, and Golden Star.

> Conventional
The conventional type of ferry is a big vessel with many indoor and outdoor spaces and a garage. If you are traveling with a dog, there is an organized kennel, but depending on the vessel, you may keep your dog on the deck supervised. You will find restaurants, fast food corners, cafes, and small shops with magazines and more, while all the interior spaces are air-conditioned. The trip with a conventional Blue Star Ferry is the most popular. Bad weather conditions, such as strong winds, do not affect that type of vessel, so the ships are always punctual. Also, the trip is much more pleasant due to its size and space, as you can enjoy the beautiful sea views and have lunch or coffee.
Last but not least, a note regarding this ferry type is that you can take your car to Mykonos at an extra cost. The ticket price is relatively low.
Types of seats: Deck/Economy, Airline-type seats/Economy, Airline-type seat/Business, and cabins with/without a view.
Price range: €38-€124
Vehicle: From €33 (Moto) and from €74 (Car)
Timetable: During the summer season, there are at least four operating routes per day for this type of vessel to/from Rafina/Mykonos and two from Piraeus.

> High-speed
The high-speed ferries are smaller in size ferries that travel faster. There are no outdoor spaces and passengers remain in the air-conditioned indoor area. Only a limited number of airline-type seats are available, and just one or two coffee shops are on deck for passengers.
Some Seajets ferries boast a garage allowing you to carry your car from Athens to Mykonos, but this is not always the case with high-speed ferries. The advantage of choosing high-speed ferries is that they sail faster and the price is not much higher than a conventional ferry.
Unfortunately, because they are small vessels, bad weather conditions affect them and it has been noticed that delays often occur. In case you are traveling with strong winds, you might feel a bit seasick.
Types of seats: Airline-type seat / Economy, Airline-type seat / Business, and Airplane seat / VIP.
Price range: €76.70 - €145.70
Vehicle price range: From €33 (Moto) and from €74 (Car)
Timetable: During the summer season, there are two ferry crossings per day for that type of vessel to/from Rafina/Mykonos and four to/from Piraeus/Mykonos.
