ABOUT SPETSES GREECE
A member of the Saronic Islands that sits in the heart of the Argolic Gulf, Spetses has a lot to offer when it comes to beaches, sightseeing, and relaxation! It is considered a favorite destination for a brief escape from the busy capital since a ferry from Athens is all you need to get to this beautiful island in just a couple of hours.
The island stands out for its stunning architecture and abundant elegance, mainly observed in its main town. That is because of the Venetian mansions and the excellent boutique hotels that combine traditional with modern elements in a unique way.
You won’t spot cars in the town so you can wander and explore the picturesque alleys at your own pace without disturbance. The means of transport that you will encounter include carriages, the local bus, motorbikes, bicycles, and a few taxis. A car can be brought to the island via specific itineraries and no car rental agencies are available on the island.
Around Dapia, the island's port, there is a selection of cafes and bars, ideal for a romantic drink with a view of the sunset. The Spetses Museum and Anargyros Mansion are located near the port and comprise two of the top attractions on the island. By strolling around the Town, though, you will discover even more sights!
The island's beaches alone are reason enough to visit the magical Spetses! Agia Paraskevi is considered the most beguiling beach, while Vrellos and Agioi Anargyroi are among the best ones, too. Those seashores are located away from the Town, so your best bet is to hire a motorbike or get there by bus. At the same time, lovely beaches, like Agios Mamas and Kaiki, are found in proximity to the Town.
Last but not least, sports enthusiasts should note that two athletic events (Spetsathlon and Spetses Mini Marathon) take place on the island annually.
All in all, if you seek an enchanting destination for a getaway near the Greek capital, look no further than Spetses!
